Startup Weekends are 54-hour events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups.

Get ready for a weekend-long, hands-on experience where you will learn what it takes to launch a startup, meet others with the same shared passion for entrepreneurship, and maybe even create a new business!

Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practising LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts.

Robb Smith

Co-founder of Chrysallis

Robb is a social entrepreneur dedicated to “transformational era” systems at the intersection of human development, technology, spiritual understanding and civilizational sustainability. At 23 he started Nevada Ventures, the state’s first venture capital fund, and co-founded the Reno-Tahoe chapter of Entrepreneur’s Organization. He established the Nevada Ventures Nanoscience Program at the University of Nevada, recognized by Scientific American for the world’s most significant biodefense technology in 2004. He was a director of RetailOne, National Car Wash Systems and Alere, which became the largest population health company in the United States (NYSE: ALR). He cofounded Nevada Nano, which in 2013 won an R&D 100 as one of the top technologies in the world. He then joined Ken Wilber to start Integral Life, where he fostered metatheoretical work including the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice, Integral Spiritual Experience and WhatNEXT. In 2007 he was a founding member of Conscious Capitalism Institute, dedicated to transforming capitalism into a vehicle for greater love and trust worldwide. In 2010 he co-founded Chrysallis.

Andy Scott

Founder/CEO, 1Bios

Andy Scott is a digital entrepreneur. He’s a founding team member at Starwave (1993), Linkexchange (1997) and Tellme (2000), and co-founder at 140 Proof (2009). These four successful startups are used today by 100’s of millions of consumers and businesses, and represent a combined (to date) $2B market value at exit. Andy is currently Founder/CEO at 1Bios, a seed stage digital wellness service, and an investor / advisor to his Angel portfolio companies. Andy is also an avid adventure athlete and pro ambassador for a number of progressive brands. Andy graduated from Dartmouth in 1993 and is based in Truckee with his wife and two daughters.

Ariel Jaduszliwer

Vice President, Pacific Community Ventures

Vice President at Pacific Community Ventures, a consumer-focused growth equity firm, Ariel Jaduszliwer sources deals, conducts due diligence, and assists structuring transactions and managing fund investments. Ariel is General Partner of a technology fund focused on Mexico, member of Kauffman Fellows Class 16 and serves on the board of Freshology.
Prior to PCV, Ariel was management consultant at the Bridgespan Group, advised the Gates Foundation on agriculture development for sub-Saharan Africa and domestic education strategy resulting in a growth strategy for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Ariel led the United Nations Development Programme’s Growing Sustainable Business Initiative in Venezuela and assessed potential private sector investments in Caracas. Working in various capacities at Intel Corporation, Ariel ultimately ran demand scenario planning process and managed a team of supply/demand analysts.

Dan Abrams

Co-founder of Flylow Gear

Dan Abrams co-founded Flylow Gear, the ski outerwear company, almost 10 years ago while finishing up a graduate degree in international political economics at the University of Denver. He and his college friend and business partner, Greg Steen, realized that their ski outerwear wasn't durable enough for climbing mountains and that mountaineering gear didn't fit the everyday demands of a skier. So they built their dream pair of pants—tough, breathable, loose enough for skiing but technical enough for the backcountry—and Flylow was born. Today, Dan remains the president of Flylow, which is based in both Denver and Tahoe and is sold in stores around the globe.

Ryan Williams

Ryan Williams has been a staple in the Truckee community for past decade helping businesses and families create financial security with investments, life insurance and disability insurance with Northwestern Mutual. He moved to Truckee in 1995 as a professional snowboarder for Burton Snowboards, and became an X Games medalist by 1998, while featured in Warren Miller and Standard Films movies and dozens of international publications. He was fortunate to meet his wife Natalia, who was on the Burton team at the same time, and today they enjoy the Truckee community with their seven year old daughter. Recognized for community involvement, Ryan Williams is a proud Board Director/Partner/Endowment Fund Manager of High Fives Non-Profit Foundation, previous Board Director of Kidzone Museum, Tahoe Forest Hospital Sports Medicine/Orthopedic Advisory Board Member, Rotarian and Thrive Tahoe member.

Dillon McDonald

Founding partner of Greenstart

Dillon McDonald is a founding partner of Greenstart and a startup veteran, having held nearly every executive leadership role in a startup: CEO, operations, sales, tech, and human resources. Dillon loves partnering with startups to achieve breakthroughs in their business model, product and core strategy. He began his startup career on the founding team OpenAuto, and later Jumpstart Automotive Media. When Jumpstart was acquired by Hachette Filipacchi Media, Dillon was tapped to become CEO of the combined companies. At his core, Dillon is a mentor and coach who loves building up both companies and people. Dillon is the co-founder of the Entrepreneurship Center at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo and serves on the board of CarWoo. Dillon holds a BA from UC Davis.

Michael co-founded matchfunder in 2012 to help corporations change the way they do business and obtain value from their strategic investments. Prior co-founding matchfunder, Michael was Managing Partner of Smart Cleantech Partners, which he co-founded in 2009. Before Smart Cleantech Partners, Michael was the CEO of a number of enterprise cloud solution companies in market segments ranging from Business Intelligence, Sales & Marketing and Customer Relationship Management. Early in his career Michael spent time as a Product Manager, Marketing Manager and Vice President of Sales for a number of companies that provided solutions to Fortune 1,000 companies.

Brian Gillings

Business Consultant, Sierra Commons Coworking Board

Born in the UK, Brian earned his BSEE and MSEE from Harrow Technical College and Polytechnic of the Southbank, London. He worked as a design engineer in the computing, broadcast TV and transient analysis industries. Since moving to Silicon Valley in '79, Brian has been involved as a senior executive with leading high-tech and semiconductor companies. He has been involved in six startups, three resulting in successful IPOs, and two mergers.

In 2001 Brian started a business consulting service – helping businesses create solid strategic plans as well as positioning start-ups for angel and series A funding, and early stage companies for series B and C funding.

Collin Harris

CEO, Bio Pac Inc.

A lifelong and tireless entrepreneur, Collin Harris has started numerous ventures in multiple niches. From founding a successful software company in the mid-1980s, to launching a line of eco-friendly cleaning products now sold nationwide, Collin knows what it takes to start and run profitable businesses from scratch. In addition to his cleaning products business, Collin runs a thriving Ecommerce website he founded in 1999. He currently lives in Incline Village with his wife and enjoys playing basketball, large dogs, and baking bread.

Jordan Papaleo

UX/UI developer for Clear Capital

Jordan is a Front End UX/UI Web Developer at Clear Capital in Truckee. He has been working in the web since 2004 with such technologies as .Net, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, LESS, HTML5, AngularJS, NodeJS, ExpressJS, and MongoDB. Jordan studied at Sessions School of Design and Colorado Technical University. He has a BS in Computer Science.

Jordan has a unique crossover skill set of designer and developer. He is very passionate about learning and teaching. Jordan has had the privilege this year to attend UX Week in San Francisco and the world's first AngularJS conference, ng-conf, in Salt Lake City.

Doug Klotz

A self-motivated sales and marketing executive, Doug Klotz has built and led teams from ground up in the enterprise and consumer software industries spanning Cloud, Mobility, CRM, SFA, ERP, and Retail. A driven entrepreneur who has participated in four successful startups including one exceeding $3B, and who combines strategic vision with tactical execution, Doug is focused on delivering great products to great customers to maximize value. Aaron Chan

Aaron Chan is an entrepreneur, a collaborator and a co-conspirator. He is currently working on his second company, My Trip Was, which builds marketing applications for the travel industry. He also mentors and coaches many startups in the areas of product design, marketing strategy and web development.

Andy Barr

Co-owner and Founder of FiftyFifty Brewing Company

Andy Barr lives in Truckee CA. with his wife and daughter and is the co-owner and founder of FiftyFifty Brewing Company, which is both a small manufacturing brewery and a restaurant, and the Drunken Monkey Sushi restaurant. Andy voluntarily left his 9 year engineering career with Hewlett Packard with the goal of entrepreneurship. The result was a successful business with a very different set of challenges to corporate engineering. Andy has a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Digital Design / Computer Architecture. At Hewlett Packard, a bulk of Andy’s career was targeted towards electro magnetics, electrical signal integrity, intellectual property development and product design and product verification standards.

Alicia Barr

President, Truckee Craft Brewing

Alicia Barr is the President, and co-owner and founder of Truckee Craft Brewing, parent company of FiftyFifty Brewing Co. and Drunken Monkey. With a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Alicia spent 8 years at Hewlett Packard as an R&D Engineer, Engineering Manager, and Lead Technical Recruiter. Her primary technical focus was in the areas of structural analysis, thermal design and vibrational stability. Alicia currently lives in Truckee with her husband (and co-owner) Andy and daughter Sofia. In addition to her business role, Alicia is also currently the Vice Mayor of Truckee.

Ben Wheeler

Technologist and Investor

Ben Wheeler is a technologist and investor specializing in the hardware and data associated with photonics, robotics, and biometrics He advises a variety of consumer and aerospace clients on lean development, business development and product strategy. He has previously worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Hewlett Packard, Air Force Research Laboratory, and In-Q-Tel. Ben splits his time between the Sonoma coast and Truckee, and enjoys just about every flavor of outdoor fun.

Glenn Rawlinson

VP of Business Development at Zetta

Glenn Rawlinson is a software entrepreneur and VP of Business Development at Zetta. After stints at Oracle, SAP and Hara, Glenn co-founded Zwingit and Mavuu where he focused on human centered design and innovation. An advocate for the outdoors and healthy living, Glenn is active in the local community and splits time between Menlo Park and Truckee.
